Sheep and Goats

We care for more than 30 sheep and goats at the Sanctuary. The majority of them came from a highly publicized felony animal cruelty case in which the animals were being deprived of food and even water. The condition of these animals was deplorable. It has taken unbelievable time and intensive medical care to bring them to the condition in which they are in today. Here are stories of some of the other sheep and goats we care for.

We were contacted about "Stinky Pete" after he ended up at our local Animal Services and would have been euthanized if we did not take him.  He was not neutered and definitely deserved his name.  Un-neutered goats do not make good companions and it is probable that his former owners could not handle a buck so they dropped him at the shelter.  We immediately had him neutered and vaccinated.  It takes some time for the male hormones to get out of animals systems yet, since he was neutered late in life, Stinky Pete still thinks he is a stud.  The female goats we are caring for just let him pretend.   His personality has definitely changed for the better since getting snipped and he now fits in well with our herd of goats and sheep that people have abandoned or abused.

Buddy is one of the biggest goats we have rescued.  We were told Buddy was taken from his mother and was living in an apartment prior to his rescue.  It took him some time to get used to the other goats.  He is now head of the herd and he loves to get on the rocks and overlook his surroundings.  His favorite game is "King of the Mountain"

Mary and Emma are mother and daughter.  They are playful sheep whom we rescued from a place with overcrowded, filthy conditions.  Mary was very young to have been pregnant and considering the environment and lack of proper care, it is surprising she was able to deliver a healthy lamb.  It has taken us years to gain Emma and Mary's trust.   They have settled into their new home nicely and they are the leaders of the sheep herd.  They even have a few goats followers now.

Fluffy and Timmy are another pair that came from a cruelty case.  Neighbors called local law enforcement when they saw Fluffy tethered by her back leg and being dragged behind an SUV down the street.  When we responded to the call with local law enforcement, we learned that Timmy's mother had recently been eaten.  Fluffy's leg was swollen to many times its normal size and it was severely infected.  It took 2 different courses of antibiotics to clear up the infection and in the end, the majority of Fluffly's hoof fell off.  She still walks with a limp yet, she is definitely one of the sweetest sheep we care for. She is very curious and loves to check out anything or anyone new who comes to the Sanctuary.  Timmy immediately bonded with Fluffy and now they are inseparable.  We are so glad to be able to give these sweet creatures a chance to know love and peace.

Please help support our efforts to rescue and rehabilitate the goats and sheep that are in need, especially those who are the victims of cruelty. These animals have the gentlest of spirits and deserve to be treated with dignity.
